The Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda (MIVAU) takes credit for the increase in declared rents, highlighting the positive impact of the Housing Law passed in May 2023. According to the Ministry, the rental housing supply increased by 4.9% in 2023, surpassing 2.3 million rentals. This increase is attributed to new regulations, which, according to the Ministry, have provided stability to the rental market.
However, these figures were already on the rise before the law's implementation, thanks to the Tax Agency's campaigns to uncover hidden rentals. The Ministry has used these data on several occasions to defend the success of the Housing Law, although the reality is that the growth in rents is largely due to prior efforts by the Treasury.
